FGAE Adolescent and Youth Health Forum Empowers Young Leaders to Tackle Adolescent and Youth Health Issues

The FGAE Adolescent and Youth (WYAMH) leaders from all 8 area offices across the country conducted the first Adolescent and Youth Health Forum in Adama from June 21 to 23. The participants were welcomed by Sister Eskedar, the Manager of the Central Area Office of FGAE, followed by a highlight of the event by Sintayehu Demeke, the AYH Program Lead.
Two main topics were presented: 1) youth leadership (facilitated by Sintayehu Demeke), and 2) the flower of participation (delivered by Adinew Husien). The former focused on developing leadership skills, and the latter tuned to meaningful participation. During the forum, the young leaders also visited the FGAE’s Adama and Bishoftu youth development centers and applauded the performances of the youth clubs. Additionally, they visited flower farms around Mojo and engaged in discussions with young female employees about sexual and reproductive health.

The young leaders had an extensive discussion and set seven agenda items to be pursued at the FGAE level, with immense implications for the national forum. The forum provided a platform for the young leaders to discuss important health issues affecting adolescents, share their experiences, and learn from experts in the field. The visit to the youth development centers and flower farms allowed them to gain firsthand experience with the challenges and opportunities facing young people in different settings.

Overall, the forum was a success in promoting awareness about adolescent health and empowering young leaders to take action in their communities. The FGAE is committed to continuing to support and engage with youth in efforts to improve their health and well-being. The event concluded with a number of directives from Mr. Gashaw Kebede, Manager of PPMD at FGAE.
