Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE)Expands Healthcare Access Nationwide In a significant expansion, the Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE) has partnered with PSI Ethiopia to bring family planning and reproductive health services to all regions of the country. The program was officially launched on April 8, 2025 by Ethiopia’s Federal Ministry of Health, marking a major milestone in FGAE’s efforts to serve underserved communities.
With this expansion, FGAE now operates in all of Ethiopia’s regional states, including Gambella & Benshangul/Asossa. The organization is actively participating in the Integrated SMART START, IUCD Scale up Health Expansion program in Gambella and Benshangul/Asossa, which launched on May 13, 2025 and May 17, 2025 respectively. By expanding our reach, we are able to provide essential healthcare to communities that have traditionally lacked access, this empowers individuals to make informed choices about their health and well-being.

The collaboration with PSI Ethiopia has been instrumental to the successful implementation. Together, the organizations are training providers, raising community awareness, and ensuring access to comprehensive family planning and reproductive health services. This partnership is a testament to our shared commitment to improving health across Ethiopia. We look forward to continued collaboration to have a profound impact on the lives of millions. The expansion is expected to empower individuals, strengthen communities, and contribute to Ethiopia’s overall development by increasing access to vital healthcare services.

FGAE, with the support of PSI-E, has signed a partnership agreement to support the Integrated SMART START initiative, which aims to scale up the IUCD (Intrauterine Contraceptive Device) program across five regional states: Northwest Tigray, East Amhara, Gambella, Benishangul Gumuz, and Harari, as well as two city administrations: Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa. The project aims to reduce teenage pregnancy by expanding the method mix available throughout Ethiopia. It will provide support to all 14 woredas in Gambella and all 24 woredas in Benishangul Gumuz.
