Capacity Building of CORHA Members in Advocacy Training-Workshop

The Consortium of Reproductive Health Association (CORHA) in collaboration with FGAE has conducted an advocacy skill development training for civil society organizations (CSOs) from 28th upto 30th of December 2021 in Bishoftu town (Ethiopia) at Lake Bishoftu Hotel. Twenty participants from different CSOs attended the training. CORHA articulates that advocacy has been a cornerstone of Independent Living and Disability Rights movements ever since before. It was noted that advocacy requires specific skills and strategies, as well as practice and persistence. Advocacy may happen in forms because it is about synergizing an individual’s strengths to achieve a conmen agenda.

The main aim of organizing the advocacy training-workshop was to enhance the capacity of CORHA’s members to take lessons from the present and carry out advocacy strategies for key SRHR issues. In the workshop, group work and discussion were made to identify current SRH agenda and set way forward.

At the end of the event, Dr. Wondosen Assefa, president of FGAE made a closing remark and handed certificates. He underlined that the training-workshop was very fruitful and gap filling for all participants organizations on the issue of SRHR advocacy movements. Accordingly, he believed that the skills acquired from the training would be put into practice when participants return back to their respective organizations.
