FGAE Concludes Successful Half-Year YAM Review Meeting and Training Sessions
Addis Ababa, October 12, 2024 – The Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE) held its half-year FGAE’s Youth Action Movement (YAM) review meeting from 9 to 12 October 2024, featuring essential training sessions on Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AYSRH) advocacy and the pivotal role of youth volunteers in organizational sustainability. This event took place at FGAE’s head office training center in Addis Ababa and gathered youth volunteers and advocates from across the country.
Ato Abadi Kalayou, Executive Director of FGAE, provided strategic direction on empowering YAM participants and youth volunteers throughout various area offices. He discussed how these young advocates can enhance their skills and contributions, which are vital for the promotion of AYSRH. “Empowerment is key” Ato Abadi Kalayou stated. “When our youth are equipped with knowledge and confidence, they become catalysts for sustainable change in their communities.”
The meeting commenced with opening remarks from Ms. Tigissit Tibebe, Governance & Partnership Development Advisor, who highlighted the importance of youth participation in shaping health policies. She emphasized that the voices of young people are critical in addressing the challenges faced in sexual and reproductive health. Mr. Sintayehu Demeke, AYH Program Lead, further reinforced this message, encouraging attendees to leverage their platforms to advocate for change in their communities.
Training sessions were conducted by Ato Difabachew Setegn and Ato Eyasu Amente. Ato Difabachew’s session focused on effective advocacy strategies for AYSRH, providing attendees with the tools needed to raise awareness and engage their peers. Ato Eyasu’s workshop addressed the role of youth volunteers in ensuring organizational sustainability, emphasizing how active participation can lead to long-term benefits for both the individuals and the organization.
The event concluded with a visit to the Akaki Kality Youth Development Center, a key initiative under FGAE’s Addis Ababa area office. Participants had the opportunity to observe the center’s programs in action and engage with local youth, gaining insights into the practical implications of their training.
Finally, the meeting and training sessions empowered participants to take active roles in their communities, fostering a network of young advocates committed to promoting AYSRH and enhancing organizational sustainability. Attendees left inspired and ready to implement their newfound knowledge in their advocacy efforts across Ethiopia.
