Young people Speak up on Sexual and Reproductive Health in Ethiopia
A delegation from the Royal Netherlands led by Lilianne Ploumne, Minister at the Ministry of Development Cooperation paid a visit to Ethiopia beginning February 27 to 28,2013.
The Minister made discussion with young people form FGAE youth centers on problems encountered and its solution to their sexual and reproductive health.
Consisting twelve representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and different companies of the Netherlands the visit basically aimed to strengthen the trade and economic cooperation between the two sisterly countries.
The minister visited the FGAE youth center at Yeka sub city and Dires House of Sports Ethio-Dutch based organizationestablished by diaspora residing in the Netherlands to empower the young and disabled children and discussed on how to reach young people and strengthen collaboration with them at the field level in SRH and HIV/AIDS program.
In his opening remarks Mulugeta Asmelash, Manager of Dires House of Sports briefed the minister on the life skill program the Dires House of Sports provided to empower vulnerable target groups the young and disabled children.
The manager also said that with the support provided by the Royal Netherland embassy in Addis the organization has started a promising collaborative work with the Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia and Save the Generation to train trainees and strength their awarenesson SRH to disabled youth.
Wro Genet Mengistu,Executive Director,FGAE also briefed the minister on FGAE’s new strategic plan (2013-2015) that underlined and called for to become center of excellence on SRH and the relentless technical support provided by the Royal Netherlands since last decades for FGAE to address integrated ,comprehensive and quality SRH services.
In a related development the delegation also discussed with CORHA, AMREEF and FGAE on how to strengthen the maternal health ,child health, and sexual and reproductive health programs, their annual budget to execute their program ,their mandate of work, procurement issues related to local and intenational NGOs and bilateral and multi-lateral organizations
On the whole it is known that the delegation got satisfied with the work done by the development cooperation of the Royal Netherlands and wanted to keep supporting boththe health and agricultural sector ofEthiopia.
